Penmon
Last Updated October 2022
Probably most noted as a summer and autumn bass mark. It also offers mackerel, pollack wrasse and occasional rays over clean patches of sand. In Autumn and spring you’ve a better chance of huss.Come winter it offers whiting, occasional codling, dogfish dabs and conger.

Guidance

In the summer you can fish lures for bass and pollack from the rocky outcrops around the headland or move to the left end of the beach for rock platforms. The ground is very mixed with boulders and rocks covered in kelp with a few cleaner patches. In summer and autumn fishing peeler crab into the gullies is the prime method to temp the bass.
Although the step shingle beach looks like a tackle graveyard it's surprisingly not as bad as it looks. Traditional beach fishing gear can be used from the beach. The step shingle beach and rock platforms at the left-hand end are the favoured marks in the winter after darkness when the place is alive with whiting and dogfish. Winter also brings a good chance of huss and conger.

Penmon is one of those places that needs to be visited at LW to see the lie of the land and help pick out the areas where the ground is clean enough to fish. No info about Penmon is complete without the warning about fishing off the Lighthouse rock. It is accessible over LW but the causeway leading to it covers very quickly on an incoming tide.
