Pwllheli, Penychain & Abererch
Description
Penychain is also known as Butlins Point and is a rock mark about 4 miles west from
Criccieth. Abererch beach is a long beach that ends at Pwllheli. Winter fishing mainly consists of
whiting and dogfish. Summer fishing can produce a mixed bag of bass,
mackerel, pollock and dogfish. Black bream can be caught off Abererch beach and usually size 6 or 4 hooks does the trick
with small baits ( rag worm or mackerel strips). Bass can be plentiful at times, either side of low
or high water.
Sand eel worked well in 2000 along with lug worm. It doesn’t really matter
where you fish on the beach but if you are after bream they tend to be
found at the end closest to Pwllheli. Fly fishing proved successful off the lower rock marks and off the beach just
about ½ mile back towards Criccieth.
In the 2000 season anglers caught bass, pollock and mackerel on the fly.
