Vale Park
Last Update September 2022

Another very popular venue offering a good chance to catch a range of species. It is considered one the best LW marks on the Wirral offering a chance to get amongst the better fish. Over HW it offers comfortable fishing from the prom. In the main fishing over HW is onto clean sand. Rule of thumb is Wirral marks are better on the larger tides as the tidal pull is not quite as strong as over on the Liverpool side of the river.

Summer Species
School bass, dabs, plaice, flounder, dogfish, smooth hounds and rays.

Winter Species
Whiting, codling, dogfish,dabs

Guidance
LW - As a general rule you can begin fishing about 2 1/2 hrs before LW to about 90 minutes after LW, but this will vary a little and can be a smaller fishing window depending upon the size of tide and the wind direction. Wellies or chest waders are needed to cross the gulley! Unless you have some detailed knowledge of this mark don't stay too long after LW as the gulley behind you will start to fill and leave you stranded!
HW - If fishing this mark over HW you’ll generally fish the flood for 3hrs up to HW and 2hrs of the ebb. In the the warmer months you can expect school bass, dabs, plaice, flounder and smooth hounds. The smooth hounds will start to show here a few weeks after the first fish start to be caught from the rock channel. July and August offer the best opportunities for smooth hounds.
HW and LW in winter will see whiting, dabs and codling. Vale Park is similar to Town Hall Steps mark in the species it produces and most of codling will be between 2lb and 4lbs with the very occasional larger fish. Most codling get caught early when the tides running a bit. Over slack water more whiting and dabs get caught and if fishing with fish baits there’s always the chance of dogfish.
