A beach made famous through the 1950's and early 1960's for the quality of its bass and tope fishing. It's a classic storm beach, western facing which will see you fishing onto clean sand. The top of the beach is backed by a shingle bank which the tide reaches about 3 hours into the flood. You need to be searching out the fish holding gullies in the ever shifting sands, for this reason it's a good idea to arrive at low water to
view the topography of the beach. The Aerodrome end of the beach is popular with anglers.
Best Bait
Peeler crab, mackerel, sandeel, lugworm, razor and mussel.
Summer Species
Bass, dogfish with occasional huss and thornback ray.
Winter Species
Whiting, codling, coalfish and dogfish
Tackle and Tactics
Beach casting gear with leads to 150g -190g depending on tide and bait. You can fish from low to high water although the first 3 hours favours the distance casters. It's possible to long line a large fish bait backing up with the tide. Once the tide reaches the shingle shorter casts 80 - 100 yards are adequate. Towards high water a short cast dropped in the
gully where the sand and shingle meet can be productive. The clean shallow water isn't ideal in bright conditions
so the best tides are spring tides when most of your fishing is done in darkness.
Directions
Traveling from Caernarfon on the A499 towards Pwllheli after about 5 miles you'll see a right turn sign posted Dinas Dinlle. Once you reach the southern end of the beach you have over 1 mile of beach to choose from. Parking is available at the top of the beach.
