All beach marks are fishing well for winter species. Criccieth itself is producing whiting, dabs and of course dogfish.  Evening and night tides are the best and the fishing is just as good on the neap tides as the the spring tides.

The carp lake has produced a fantastic 129 lbs by an angler who caught nothing over 3 lb. The carp lake can easily produce bags of 60 lbs + from now onwards.

The biggest carp to date is14 lb 9 oz so there’s plenty more big fish to come out.

Mullet are being caught up to 10 lbs on the Dwyfor estuary on bread.  Bass are also being caught in and around the river mouth. Pwllheli Harbour and Porthmadog Estuary (down to the Powder House) are both producing good bass.

Boat Fishing

The causeway is producing some good bags of bass plugging and spinning over the reef and there are more than enough bream to 3 lbs to keep everyone happy. The Tope fishing has died down a bit but there are plenty of bullhuss in the 12 - 14 lbs bracket.

Mackerel are being caught from most beaches with Criccieth doing particularly well over high water from the jetty and off the beach on the Marine Terrace side.

The plane had 2 hours earlier crash landed about 500 yds out to sea, those witnessing the event suspected that would be the last they'd see of it. New Welsh Record Black Bream

15 May 2003

Criccieth Angler Alan Smith had a pleasant surprise while bass fishing at Pwllheli on Friday 2nd May 2003. He was fishing a size 4/0 hook baited with a lug, crab and squid cocktail when he struck into a bite. He was hoping for a bass but was left speechless when he saw his bass was actually a monster black bream.

The fish was weighed at the time of its capture  and the scales went to 5lbs. The fish was weighed again the following morning (Saturday) in the shop (Companions) by Celt on a calibrated set of scales, it registered 4lb 9ozs. This fish is 1lb 2ľozs heavier than the current Welsh shore caught black bream record.

The record claim is now with the W.F.S.A  who are authenticating it before it can be accepted as the official Welsh record black bream.
