Sea fishing
from the shore around Criccieth, Porthmadog and the
Lleyn Peninsula
The map shows the area broken into 3 zones, North, West and South these
correspond to the 3 sides of the peninsula.
Each coastline
offers a different challenge to the angler:-

The South
Coast (Harlech
- Abersoch)
The fishing is mostly from clean shallow sandy beaches with the
estuary of the river Glaslyn at Porthmadog and the headlands at Penychain,
Gimlet Rock, and Llanbedrog being the notable exceptions.
The main species encountered from shore are:- bass, thornback ray,
dogfish, whiting, bream, mackerel, mullet, dabs, flounder, pollock, wrasse,
silver eels and occasional plaice. The beach running north from Harlech towards
the Glaslyn estuary produces occasional small
turbot.
The West Coast
(Abersoch - Morfa Nefyn)
With the exceptions of Hells Mouth, Aberdaron and Whistling Sands the
coastline here is rocky with high cliffs and only the occasional sandy
cove. The species encountered from this part of the coast are:- bull
huss, pollack, dogfish, conger, wrasse, bass, ray, mackerel, whiting and
plaice.
The North Coast
(Morfa Nefyn to Dinas Dinlle)
This North Coast is mostly one of shallow sandy beaches the only
exceptions to this are being the old dock at Pistyll and the pier at
Trefor. The main species worth targeting here are:- bull huss,
pollack, dogfish, bass, ray, mackerel, whiting, dabs, coalfish and
plaice.
